The MHSAA scholarship program helps students from Milan High School and children of alumni further their education after high school.
Scholarships are open to the natural, adoptive and stepchildren of all MHS alumni. To be eligible, at least one parent must hold a diploma (not a GED) from Milan High School. Applications are available through the MHS Guidance Office or clicking on the link above. Scholarship recipients are determined by the Alumni Association Board of Directors. The student (preferably) or a family member must be present on Alumni Day to accept the scholarship or it will be forfeited. These scholarships are valid for twelve months after graduation. Applications from MHS graduates are due by the first Friday in May. Return completed applications to the Guidance Counselor's office or mail to MHS Alumni Association, P.O. Box 223, Milan, TN 38358.

Lamar Pittman Scholarship - $1,000
Started in 1957, this scholarship is awarded to a senior based on scholarship, leadership and citizenship.
Andrew D. Holt Scholarship - $1,000
Named in honor of the late Dr. Holt in 1970, this scholarship is selected impartially at the annual alumni meeting. Dr. Holt is President Emeritus, University of Tennessee and was a 1923 graduate of Milan High School.
Johnnie Hale Metcalf Scholarship - $1,000
Since 1972, this award has been presented to a deserving senior from MHS who has given his or her best in a cooperative effort for progress in all phases of school work.
Edith Holt Scholarship - $1,000
Begun in 1975, this scholarship is named in memory of Miss Edith Holt. A Milan graduate, she taught in the Milan school system for 46 years before her retirement.
J.W. Thomas Scholarship - $1,000
Established in 1981, this scholarship is awarded in memory of "Jimmy" W. Thomas, former principal and superintendent in the Milan school system. He served education well in every facet imaginable from 1932 until 1974. Mr. Thomas was made an honorary graduate of the MHS class of 1928.
Lurla B. Daniels Keith Scholarship - $1,000
Established in 1983, this scholarship is awarded to a senior with preference given to pursuance in the education profession. Mrs.. Keith is most remembered for her tireless contributions as secretary to the MHS Alumni Association.
Milton Mayo Scholarship - $1,000
This award was established in 1980 to honor Milton Mayo, who served Milan students many years as a teacher, coach, principal and superintendent.
Wylie Wheeler Scholarship - $1,000
Established in 1997, this award honors Wylie Wheeler for his outstanding contributions to the Milan school system as an educator for many years.
Norris Hassell Scholarship - $1,000
Established in 1989, this scholarship is awarded in memory of Norris Hassell. He served as treasurer of the Milan High School Alumni Association for 27 years, 1959-1986.
Laura Rushing Stewart Scholarship - $1,000
Established in 2001, this scholarship honors Laura Rushing Stewart for her many years of dedication and service as treasurer to the association.
Marcelle Stevens Moore Scholarship - $1,000
Established in 2001, this scholarship honors Marcelle Stevens Moore, Class of 1960, for many years of dedicated service as secretary and associate secretary of the alumni association.
Ralph Holt Scholarship - $1,000
Established in 2003, this scholarship honors Ralph Holt (1922-2002), a 1939 Milan grad who was a teacher, coach and administrator at Park Avenue School during a 28-year period from 1951 until 1979.
Elizabeth Keaton Ownby Scholarship - $1,000
Established in 2004, this scholarship honors a faithful and dependable volunteer for the Alumni Day Open House for many years. Liz (Class of 1959) has devoted a lifetime to Purple Pride, served a term as MHSAA president and was one of the MHSAA honorees in 2002.
Mary Moore Collins Scholarship - $1000
Established in 2004, this scholarship honors this faithful and dependable volunteer for the Alumni Day Open House for many years and was one of the MHSAA honorees in 2002. Mary (Class of 1962) devoted 34 years to teaching in Milan schools, retiring in 2004.
Rex Tatum Scholarship - $1,000
Established in 2004, this scholarship honors a 1953 MHS graduate and standout athlete who later taught and coached at Milan High. Rex has served the alumni association since 1961 in numerous capacities including a term as president. He spearheaded successful efforts to build our office headquarters and introduces special classes each year. He was the MHSAA honoree in 2003.
Bobbie Pratt Priddy Scholarship - $1,000
Established in 2004, this scholarship is in recognition of our 2004 honoree, Bobbie Pratt Priddy (Class of ’54). A beloved kindergarten teacher in Milan for 31 years, Bobbie Sue has been a faithful church member and dedicated volunteer for many civic groups, including the Milan Alumni Association.
Wylie Wheeler/Purple Pride Scholarship - $1,000
Established in 2008, honoring the memory of a former girls’ basketball coach and superintendent who was a member of the alumni executive board. The Wylie Wheeler/Purple Pride Scholarship will be awarded to a female team member.
Bob Parkins Scholarship - $1,000
Establish in 2008, this scholarship honors the late editor of the Mirror-Exchange, Bob Parkins (Class of 1947). Mr. Parkins was a longtime member of the Milan alumni board of directors, serving many years as Publicity Chairman. He also served as president of the alumni association and was the MHSAA special honoree in 1998.
Glenda Houston Hughes Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2010, this scholarship honors the memory of Glenda Houston Hughes (Class of 1967), a former teacher and principal. She also served as president of the alumni association and was the MHSAA special honoree in 2007.
PRIVATELY FUNDED SCHOLARSHIPS
Jeff Hopper Memorial Scholarship - $6,000
Established in 1994 by family and friends in loving memory of Jeff, this scholarship is presented to a student athlete.
Hazel Culver Memorial Scholarship - $2,000
This scholarship is given by Mrs. Culver's son, Dr. C.D. Culver, to a graduate who plans to attend Jackson State Community College, Jackson, TN. The student is selected on the basis of character, ability, need, and the likelihood of success in a chosen field. A grade point average of at least a "B" in high school is required.
Fuchs' Family Scholarship
In May 1995, the Fuchs Family Reunion established a scholarship fund to be presented to a Fuchs' family descendent graduating from Milan High School. This scholarship is not awarded every year.
L.R. and Hassie Powell Scholarship - $3,000
Mr. Robert Powell established an endowment fund to honor his parents who always showed an interest in young people. The Powell Scholarship is given to a student who has shown the most improvement in four years of high school. The recipient is chosen by the MHSAA Board of Directors.
Allie Vee Fly & Martha Louise Blankenship Scholarship
An endowment fund for scholarships was established in 1995 by Allie Vee Fly Blankenship in memory of Mrs. Blankenship and her daughter, Martha Louise Blankenship. This scholarship is not awarded every year.
Class of 1966 Scholarship - $1,000
Established in 2003 by graduates in the Class of 1966, this scholarship honors the memory of all deceased classmates.
Betty Fisher Short Memorial Scholarship - $1,000
Established in 2004 by her family, this scholarship honors the memory of Betty Short, a former teaching assistant who died from ALS, the muscular dystrophy disorder known as Lou Gehrig"s disease. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduate who plans to attend Union University, the alma mater of Betty's husband, the late Fred Short, with priority given to students planning careers in healthcare, nursing, medicine or science.
Peggy Lynn Johnson Fain Scholarship - $1,000
Established by George Fain in 2008 in honor of his late wife, Peggy (Class of 1950), who was a cheerleader. This scholarship will be awarded annually to a cheerleader.
Mary and Fred Collins Honorary Scholarship - $1,000
Established in 2009 by their son, McLean Collins, in celebration of their lifelong commitment to education and to honor their many years of service to the students and community of Milan. The scholarship may be awarded annually to a student who displays integrity, compassion, and intellectual curiosity in the classroom and community and who intends to pursue and complete advanced academic work at an accredited institution of higher learning. This scholarship is not awarded every year.
Thelma Seavers Memorial Scholarship - $1,000
This scholarship is given by her family in recognition for many years of service to Milan schools. This scholarship will be given to a deserving graduate who plans to enter a four year Tennessee college or university in preparation for a career in elementary education. This scholarship is not awarded every year.
Coach John Wade Tucker Scholarship - $1000
Established in 2011 by Perkins Restaurant and Hampton Inn, honoring a lifelong educator and winning football coach. This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student athlete who has earned a varsity letter, maintained a 2.75 GPA, demonstrated good conduct and school spirit while at MHS.
Joseph and Alta Crocker Fuchs Memorial Scholarship - $1000
Established by their family in 2012 to honor the memory of Joseph and Alta Crocker. This scholarship is presented to a deserving graduate in consideration of such student's academic record, school and extra-curricular activities, character and financial need.
Kip Reel Memorial Scholarship - $1000
Created in 2012 by his wife Dr. Mary Reel and sons Ben, Matt and Lincoln, in memory of his lifelong commitment to education. To be awarded to a student with high academic achievement in the areas of career and technical or someone going into education.
F.C.C.L.A. Scholarship - $1000
Established in 2013 by Rebecca Jones and a committee of her former students. This scholarship may be awarded to a student that has been involved in the Family Careers and Community Leaders of America (F.C.L.L.A.) and desiring a career in the vast Family And Consumer Science (FACS) program of study.
Barbara Thompson Memorial Scholarship - $1000
Established in 2014 by family and friends in memory of the 1978 Milan High School graduate. This scholarship is awarded to a student who plans to attend The University of Tennessee at Martin. To be awarded to a student with financial need, good student, preferable "B" average, but hard worker with desire and potential to succeed in college.
Fit 4 Life - $1000
Established in 2015 by Karen and Ray Sutton. This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving female athlete, who has earned a varsity letter in a sport and has maintained a "B" average.
